The Newport Area Chamber of Commerce proudly announces the line-up for the 16th annual Depot Days Festival to be held Saturday, September 28, 2013, on Front Street in downtown Newport. The festival is a showcase of local, regional and national talent paying tribute to the rich musical history of Jackson County for which Rock 'n' Roll Highway 67 was recognized by the Arkansas Legislature and Governor Mike Beebe years ago.
The history sprang from the nightclubs and honky tonks which lined the highway in the 50's and 60's. Rock and Roll pioneers such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, and Sonny Burgess were among the greatest entertainers to frequent the highway venues.
As annual festival attendees will tell you, you cannot find a more genuine slate of living rock and roll legends than you will see at Depot Days. Sonny Burgess and his Legendary Pacers are still blowing away crowds of Rockabilly fans throughout America and Europe. Original Sun Records saxophone session man Ace Cannon will bring his sweet soul and "tuff" rockin' jazz repertoire to Front Street. The Derailers, the crowd pleasing house band from the iconic Broken Spoke Bar in Austin, Texas returns as a fan favorite. Headlining this year's event will be chart topping Confederate Railroad who bring their international stardom to Front Street, Newport.
Food, vendors, crafts, giveaways from the stage and children's activities will be available for all to enjoy. Admission is FREE!
